Cheap Wedding Photographers – Do They Cost More?

A cheap wedding photographer would definitely cut hundreds of dollars from the wedding budget as it relates to photography. But be careful that you don’t get more than you bargained for – or should I say less? Weddings certainly aren’t cheap, and it is said that wedding packages account for a substantial amount of the total expenditure at weddings. Therefore, it is quite understandable that deciding on cheap wedding photographers might be extremely tempting to do. But wait!

Don’t be sucked in too quickly. Most couples who have made wrong choices with photographers can tell you that botched wedding photographs are something that they never quite get over. Year after year, anniversary after anniversary – regret is definitely more costly that the professional wedding photographs could ever be.

What’s The Big Deal?

The purpose of hiring a professional photographer is to satisfy your desire to always have flattering pictures of your most memorable day.  The odds of your photos being spoiled are greatly increased if the photographer is not a professional at his/her craft. In addition, the wedding moments once gone are forever gone. There is just no way to re-capture the event a second time around. It is definitely practical to budget properly for photograph expenses, but hiring an inexpensive wedding photographer, sometimes referred to as a cheap wedding photographer just might turn out to be much more costly.

Experience Takes the Cake

Having an experienced photographer (one you can afford), will obviously contribute positively to the outcome of the photos. An experienced photographer knows what to look out for, what shots to take and where to take them. Quite frankly, cheap wedding photographers are less likely to notice that stream of light which falls across your face as you cut the cake, than the professional. Are you getting the picture?

Does Cheap Equal Inexperience?

On the other hand, finding cheap wedding photographers doesn’t necessarily mean you have found inexperienced ones. Many professionals offer bargains from time to time, especially when it is not the wedding season. Competition may also be another factor which might require professionals to lower their prices in order to remain competitive.

Negotiations are always in order, no matter how experienced the photographer is. But please, be practical. Asking the photographer to take huge amounts of the quoted figure might be insulting. Even, so called, cheap wedding photographers (if hired) provide a service and should be duly compensated.

It’s A Wrap!

There are just too many risks associated with cheap wedding photographers, which are just not worth your while. By no means, am I suggesting that you throw out your budget – just don’t base your decision on a supposed bargain alone.

Choosing a photographer with excellent references and detailed sample of work previously done will go a far way in protecting your interests. Also, in a bid to avoid any form of regret, ensure that the photographer’s style of work is in sync with what you have in mind. Be clear about what you want, the photographer may be in charge of taking the photos, but it is still your wedding and you are the one paying.

Do thorough research until you find a photographer that is compatible with your budget and your ideal end result – you may still have to tweak your budget a bit. But hey, life is all about balance, right?
